Becoming a Fish Hawk 18 owner by accident means I got it with all its flaws and problems. The biggest one is that it's been sitting covered for who knows how long and before I put it in the lake and sink it I'd like to get some tips about things to check?

First things first, check the transom and floor for soft spots, pull the drain plug and see what comes out, and definitely go through the wiring, critters love old boats

That's a fun way to get into boating, and yes, a thorough inspection now should save you a headache later!
First I'd check the bilge pump to make sure it's working and the battery is charged.
Also pull the drain plug out to check its condition and then put it back in securely.
Inspect all the hoses for cracks or dryness, especially the ones for the livewell and any cooling systems.
And yeah, I agree with @Tattle Toe, don't forget to check the hull for obvious damage, and when you check the wiring, maybe even spray some electrical contact cleaner on the connections.
Also do a quick check of the steering and throttle cables!
